About Emma

Emma worked as a Senior Veterinary Nurse at Fernlea Veterinary Clinic for 21 years before fulfilling her life long dream owning her own Dog Training, Behaviour & Handler Education Business Competent Canines.

 

She gained a wealth of experience throughout her Veterinary Nursing career and Qualified as a professional dog trainer with the Association of Pet Dog Trainers in 2006. Emma is a member of many recognised organisations within the industry who assess her on a yearly basis to ensure she keeps up to date with only the very best methods of training. She always provides up to date advice & her training methods are always using positive reinforcement.  The organisations she is part of works under the umbrella of the UK Dog Behaviour & Training Charter.

Emma regularly continues her professional development by attending courses in canine behaviour & training, veterinary nursing seminars & workshops throughout the year. 

 

Emma has competed all over the UK in dog agility to an exceptional standard with her CKCS Rosie. She also owned two rescue dogs: a collie cross called Millie who had severe separation anxiety & a Kelpie called Foxy who was extremely noise sensitive & she helped them both overcome their complex behavioural issues.

 

Emma now owns Maeve a Large Munsterlander & Reenie an Irish Setter. Emma loves expanding her knowledge especially in the gun dog, scent work & competitive obedience field.

 

Emma has a keen interest in helping sound sensitive dogs & dogs who lack in self confidence. She also enjoys teaching children about dog safety.

 

Emma is a firm believer that training your dog is all about having fun using kind, fair and effective methods of training.
